Two structure fires kept departments in the borough busy Thursday afternoon.
At about 4:15 p.m. Fairbanks Firefighters were called to El Sombrero for a fire in the ceiling that spread from the kitchen area.
Employees had to evacuate customers from the building, but no one was hurt. The interior suffered substantial smoke damage, however, and the restaurant will likely be closed for several weeks for remodeling.
Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze in less than 15 minutes.
As the Fairbanks Fire Department was leaving the scene of that fire, the Steese Volunteer Fire Department was responding to another blaze on Craig Avenue on the north side of the city.
A fire broke out on the second floor of a two-story house, forcing a couple and their three dogs out.
Firefighters spent more than a half an hour removing insulation to make sure the fire was completely extiguished.
The extent of the damage is unknown, but it is believed the fire was electrical.
