FFD Battles Fire in Auto Shop:
As temperatures dropped well below zero, FFD responded to a reported structure fire on 19th Ave. Concurrently, they were dispatched to a possible building fire at Jillian Square. With two reported fires, the use of mutual aid assisitance was required. Upon arrival, Fairbanks Fire Engine 1 found a working fire in an automotive repair facility on 19th Ave. The reported fire at Jillian was a false alarm, as the smoke from the fire on the west end of 19th drifted into Jillian Square making it appear there was a second fire.
Fairbanks Firefighters arrived quickly and made an aggressive interior attack with a 2 1/2" hoseline stopping the progress of the fire. Extensive overhaul was required and the cause of the fire is under investigation by the Fairbanks Fire Departments Fire Marshal.
