Fairbanks Firefighters Association:      Fall Update

A busy summer is close to wrapping up for the Fairbanks Firefighters Association. The following is a brief update of recent events.

Fill the Boot: The City of Fairbanks Firefighters Association, IAFF L1324, is pleased to announce that this year area Firefighters collectively raised $34,513.17 through our annual “Fill the Boot” campaign.   Each year Fairbanks area Firefighters support “Jerry’s Kids” and the Muscular Dystrophy Association. The money was collected by area firefighters at different locations around Fairbanks and North Pole holding out fire boots to passing traffic.

Fairbanks Firefighters thank all Fairbanks area residents for their generosity and support. This year, thanks to our community, we were able to slightly exceed last years record total. The generosity of area residents, despite current economic factors is very impressive. This money was collected via a collaboration of multiple area fire departments working together.

Additionally, the City of Fairbanks Firefighters had 100% participation in this years United Way Fundraiser.

L1324 Celebrates 50 years of proudly serving Fairbanks! The Fairbanks Firefighters Association L1324 just celebrated its 50th anniversary. Formed in 1959 the Fairbanks Firefighters Association (FFA) represents 42 employees of the City of Fairbanks Fire Department. The Firefighters Association, in partnership with the City of Fairbanks, provides paramedic level ambulance, fire suppression and rescue services to the City of Fairbanks.

Fairbanks Fire Department Open House: On July 25th the Fairbanks Fire Department, sponsored jointly between the Fairbanks Fire fighters Association L1324 and the City of Fairbanks Fire Department, held their annual “Open House”. It is estimated over 1,100 people attended and enjoyed fire station tours, fire apparatus displays and various children’s activities including spraying a fire hose and a large fire truck slide. Visitors enjoyed free hot dogs, chips, popcorn, soda and balloons all provided by the Fairbanks Firefighters Association L1324 with generous discounts from local vendors.

The event was held immediately following the Golden Days Parade and is tentatively scheduled again for Golden Days next year.

Fairbanks Firefighters Proudly Continue the Tradition of Leading the Golden Days Parade with the Color Guard and their restored 1969 Mack Pumper which served the Golden heart City for over 25 years.
